Submissions
Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.- The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
- The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
- The text is 1.5-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
- The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
Author Guidelines
It is a refereed scientific publication organ on Veterinary and Animal Science, published online twice a year, in June and December. The abbreviated name of the journal is "VZS".
Articles to be published in this journal should be prepared in Turkish or English and should not have been previously published in another journal or submitted simultaneously to another journal. Articles planned to be published in this journal are original research articles, case reports and compilation studies on research studies on topics related to Veterinary Medicine (Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pathology Microbiology, Virology, Biochemistry, Histology and Embryology, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Reproduction and Artificial Insemination, Parasitology, Anatomy, Pharmacology, Veterinary Genetics, Food Hygiene and Technology, Animal Nutrition and Nutritional Diseases, Laboratory Animals) and Zootechnics (Animal Husbandry and Breeding, Feed Information and Animal Nutrition, Aquaculture, Beekeeping).
If experimental animals are used in articles sent to VZS journal for publication; The article must include the phrase “Local Ethics Committee approval has been obtained” or “Local Ethics Committee principles have been followed” in the Material and Method section. If local ethics committee approval has been obtained, the author(s) must indicate the institution from which they received ethics committee approval and the approval number.
Authors are obliged to comply with the copyright conditions regarding the material taken from other sources and used and to sign the agreement stating the transfer of copyright to the journal. All responsibilities arising from the articles published in the journal belong to the authors of the article.
In order for any article (Original Research Article, Case Report, Review) related to Notifiable Diseases in Animals to be evaluated, a permission letter obtained from the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock of the Republic of Turkey must be submitted to the Journal Editorship.
The evaluation of the articles is sent to the consultation of at least two expert referees by the relevant editor. Double-blind referee evaluation is carried out. The acceptance of the article for publication depends on the evaluation results of the referees and the decision of the journal editorship.
VZS ARTICLE PREPARATION REQUIREMENTS
Articles should be written on A4 paper with 1.5 line spacing, leaving 3 cm margins from the edges, and the number of pages, including figures, tables and sources, should not exceed 15 for original scientific research, 9 for case reports and 20 for reviews. In review articles and research articles, paragraphs should begin with a line indent. All subheadings should begin at the line indent. However, in case reports, a line indent is not required at the beginning of a paragraph.
The article should be written in Microsoft Word using Times New Roman font, 12-point font. However, the abstract and references should be in 11-point font and single-line. The references should be listed in single-line format at the end of the article. Table and Figure text should be written in 11-point font, with explanatory notes below the table in 10-point font and single-spaced. (Updated after issue 1)
The article must be numbered continuously (starting from page 1) and page numbers (at the bottom and in the center) should be included. The article must be uploaded as a separate page consisting of two sections: the title page and the article. The article title page does not need to be numbered. The page on which the article is submitted should not include author information, as it will be submitted for peer review. It should be continued with the article title followed by the abstract.
Explanatory information about the article (thesis, project, etc.) should be added as a superscript [*] in square brackets at the end of the article title and explained in italics under the keyword.
Articles (INTRODUCTION, MATERIAL AND METHOD, RESULTS, DISCUSSION, CONCLUSION, REFERENCES) must be written in all capital letters. Subject headings should be capitalized with the first letter of each word, and subheadings should be written in italics with the first letter of each word capitalized. All titles should be written in bold.
Trade names of the substances and products subject to the research should not be used.
Original Scientific Research Articles
First Page
The first page of the article should consist of the title, author names and addresses, e-mail addresses of the authors, ORCID numbers, contact information of the responsible author (Gözde KILINÇ) and explanatory information about the article, if any.
Title: In Turkish and English titles, only the first letter of each word should be capitalized. If the article is in Turkish, the Turkish title (Turkish title, abstract, and keywords) should be written first, followed by English (English title, abstract, and keywords). If the article is in English, a Turkish abstract and keywords section is not required. Authors whose native language is Turkish may add a Turkish title and abstract to their English articles following the English title and abstract if they wish. However, this is not mandatory.
Author Names and Addresses: The name of the author(s) (only initials capitalized; Onur) and surname (all capitals; ÖZKÖK) (without academic title) should be written centered under the title. The responsible author should be marked with (*), a number should be added to the upper right corner of the authors' names and these numbers should be used in the addresses section. In the authors' addresses; The institution, unit, city and country to which it is affiliated should be stated.
Authors' e-mail addresses: The names and e-mail addresses of all authors whose names appear in the article should be written.
Contact Information for the Responsible Author: Information including the name-surname, e-mail, address, telephone, GSM and fax numbers of the responsible author of the article should be written.
Explanatory Information About the Article: If any, explanatory information about the article (thesis, project etc.) should be explained in italics using the [*] sign as a footnote at the end of the first page. The article should continue with the abstract and introduction starting from the second page. When uploading the article to the system, the title page and manuscript must be uploaded separately. The manuscript must include the title of the article, followed by the abstract without author information. The title page must include the title and author information prepared by the format.
Abstract: This should briefly include the purpose, materials, methods, findings, and conclusions. The word count for the abstract should be between 200 and 250 words.
Keywords: There should be a maximum of 6 keywords. Keywords can be listed in the order preferred by the author. A comma (,) should be placed between the keywords. Keywords should be written single-spaced.
It should be completed as Introduction, Materials and Methods, Findings, Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgements (if necessary), Author Contributions and References sections. Section titles should start with a capital letter. Subheadings of sections should be written in italics with only the first letter capitalized. All headings should be written in bold and in 12-point Times New Roman at the beginning of the line.
Statistical Analysis information:
It should be given under the title “Statistical Analysis” at the end of the Materials and Methods section of the article.
Units and Abbreviations: The abbreviations of each abbreviation should be given at the first place in the text. International Standard Units (SI-system) should be used for units and measurements. Genus and species names should be written as “Yersinia ruckeri” in italics. In numerical and statistical data used in the article, commas (,) should be used in Turkish and periods (.) should be used in English. Example (Turkish: 97.5; 0.15; % 23.9; P˂0.01; English: 57.2; 0.155; 75.9 %, P˂0.01.)
Tables and Figures: Table names should be written above the relevant table, and Figures should be written below the relevant figure. The graphics, photographs and pictures in the article should be expressed as Figures in the text and in the titles. Figures and tables should be numbered according to their order in the text and written without abbreviations in the text (e.g. Figure 1, Table 1). Tables and figures should be placed in the sections where they should be in the article, and their titles and explanations should be added according to the language of the article. Any abbreviations used in tables and figures should be explained under the table and figure. A reference must be made beforehand regarding the Figure and Table used in the article.
Conclusion: The obtained/reached result of the article should be stated in a single paragraph at the end of the Discussion and Conclusion section.
Articles Containing Case Reports
The first and second pages should be prepared as described in the original scientific research articles section. The number of words to be used in the abstracts should not be less than 120 (150-200) and should be written with single line spacing.
Introduction, Case Report (material, method and findings should be mentioned under the title Case Report) Discussion and Conclusion should be completed as References.
Statistical analysis information, units and abbreviations, tables and figures, if any, should be presented in the case report as described in the scientific research articles section.
At the end of the case report, the result obtained should definitely be stated as a single paragraph.
Compilation Articles
The summary prepared for the compilations should consist of information about the subject of the compilation and the purpose of the compilation. The number of words to be used in the abstracts should be between 200-250.
The compilation should start with the abstract from the second page, continue with subheadings to be determined by the author/s, and be completed with the Conclusion and References.
If there are any units and abbreviations, tables and figures in the compilation, they should be presented as described in the scientific research articles section.
The conclusion of the compilation should be stated under the Conclusion heading just before the References section.
WRITING OF REFERENCES
In articles to be published in the Veterinary and Zootechnical Sciences (VZS) Journal, the use of up-to-date References is of great importance. References have to be written in accordance with the guidelines of our VZS journal. The accuracy of the references is the responsibility of all authors, especially the Corresponding Author. Citations and the References section have to be prepared according to the APA 6 Edition guidelines. In the References section, sources should be listed in alphabetical order based on the surname of the first author. Species names (e.g., Enterococcus faecium, Medicago sativa) must be written in İtalic font. Manuscript cites should be formatted according to Table 1.
